Carts change hands like furniture — document them like vehicles

Golf carts and low-speed vehicles are a favorite target for casual theft precisely because they're traded with no paperwork. A one-page bill of sale with the serial number protects both sides for the cost of two signatures.

Finding the serial number

On most Club Car, EZ-GO, and Yamaha carts the serial plate is under the passenger-side glove box, under the seat, or on the frame near the accelerator. Record it exactly — it's the only unique identifier a cart has.

Gas, electric, and street-legal notes

Note the power type and, for electric carts, the battery age if known. If the cart is a street-legal LSV with a VIN and title, treat it like a motor vehicle: check your state's DMV transfer requirements before signing.
